Welcome to Dharma and Dharmasankata

This is a weekly meditation for those who are on an odyssey with me to discover the best that they can be. I chose the name, Dharma and Dharmasankata, as it encapsulates the long and difficult journey an Odyssey is meant to be.

If you are reading this, I am sure you are not the type to get daunted. I suppose you are vaguely familiar with terms like Dharma or Dharmasankata. It doesn’t matter even if you aren’t. We have a lifetime’s work left to discover the path of dharma and arrive at the fork of the road in every critical juncture to meet the dharmasankata that awaits us.

If you’re thinking of subscribing, you probably want to know who I am, and what you should, and should not, expect from this newsletter.

Who I am

My name is Venky Ramachandran, and chances are you’re probably here because you already know who I am, in which case scroll on. If you don’t know who I am, check out my LinkedIn profile, and sample some of my personal writings which touch upon Yoga, Mahabharata, and self-transformation.

What this Sangha is

This newsletter is for those who have already set out their masts on a journey of self-discovery. You might want to subscribe if you…

  • …are looking to tap into the wellspring of wisdom inside to make sense of the post-pandemic world.

  • …are looking to discover your dharma and meaning in the work you do and the life you live.

  • …are playful enough to examine your roots and tradition without binary judgment of sacredness and profanity.

  • …are serious about self-reflection and open enough to examine your MBA credentials - your Myths, your Biases, and your Assumptions.

  • …can hold your own roots in pride, without being too egotistic.

  • …can critically examine your roots, without wallowing in self-flagellation.

If you are such a person, I will send you something which will deepen your quest for dharma. I hope you will be able to walk with me, as we explore roads unexplored and have fun along the way.

We might explore an old proverb. Or Tales of Vikram-Betaal. Or Patanjali Yoga sutras. Or Thyagaraja Kritis. Or a deceptively simple story from Mahabharata. Frankly, there will be lots to explore from Mahabharata as my love affair with Mahabharata, its stories, and the deeper question it holds continues unabated since 2016, when I first rediscovered it, thanks to my Yoga mentor, Raghu Ananthanarayanan.

This journey wouldn’t have been possible without Raghu and his deep passion to share his learnings from a life beautifully lived to arrive at a synthesis linking Yoga, Indian Thought, Systems thinking, Vaastu, Leadership, and Organizational Design.

What this Sangha is not

This newsletter is not for those who are

  • …looking for an easy “take-away” that will neatly be packaged: Seven Lessons, Do’s and Don’ts Advice on Leadership and Management from Mahabharata and Indic Tradition.

  • …looking for the next big million dollar opportunity to make money in packaging traditional native wisdom as the next big thing.

  • ...not willing to trust the context you are in and the unique intelligence you are blessed to discover your purpose and meaning.

  • …not willing to be concerned about the human condition.

  • …not ready to reflect inward and deeply listen to oneself and the other.
